Want To Remodel Your Kitchen? Tips On Choosing New Flooring And Countertops

Posted on

Remodeling your kitchen is an exciting time but there are many things you must consider before getting started. This way you will be happy with the remodel when it is all finished. Keep reading for information on choosing new flooring and countertops.

New Flooring

There are many types of flooring to choose from. One type commonly used is ceramic tile. This is popular because ceramic tiles are easy to install, durable, easy to clean, and will last a long time. One thing to consider is these floors are slippery when they are wet. If you have pets in your home, such as dogs, they will not scratch up ceramic tiles as easily as other types. If you spill something on the floor, they are resistant to moisture.

Another type you can choose is natural stone tiles. Depending on what you choose, this can be an affordable option but there are also some stone tiles that are more expensive. You will find these tiles in a wide variety of colors and styles, however. Natural stone tiles are strong and they will likely last longer than your home. You do have to be careful as they can crack if something very heavy is dropped on the flooring. If this happens the flooring can be repaired.

Countertops

Along with flooring you should consider also changing the countertops. Granite is a popular choice but can be expensive. Granite does look beautiful, however. One benefit of granite is it is available in a variety of colors so you can easily match the granite to other colors in your kitchen. Granite can handle heat very well and is durable and strong. One thing to consider is granite is porous which means liquids can soak into the materials. To prevent this from happening have the countertop sealed every few years. A kitchen remodeling contractor can tell you how often you should do this.

Soapstone is another option you have. This is a natural stone that is generally dark grey. This type is becoming more popular as it looks great in modern homes, as well as older homes. Over time the patina will change which means the dark grey color may become darker in different areas making the countertop unique. If the countertop is damaged, you can sand it out. The countertop is also resistant to many stains.
