Work Zone Safety Equipment You Need Before Starting Road Work For The First Time

Posted on

Did you recently start a construction business or any other type of firm that might be contracted or hired to do road work within local communities? Before you send workers out to the job site for the first time, make sure you are properly protecting everyone by having the right work zone equipment to help manage oncoming traffic. Here are some of the things you should be sure to have available to you before your first road work project begins.

Stock Up on Cones to Keep a Wide Berth Between Your Employees and Oncoming Cars

Orange cones or any other kind of easily visible barrier that you can put down on the road in order to re-direct cars away from your employees is a key essential for any road work site. You can start placing the cones long before the beginning of the actual work site or at the start of a bend in the road in order to advise drivers to start slowing down before they actually get near your employees.

Get a Digital Sign You Can Use to Communicate the New Speed Limit or Warn Drivers to Slow Down

You may also want to invest in one or more signs that you can start putting up ahead of the work site advising drivers that there is a lower speed limit in effect or that they need to slow down. You may want to consider splurging on a digital sign that you can adjust or change the message on depending on your needs from project to project. Some of these signs can be configured to work with a radar gun and will flash the driver's speed when they go by to let them know if they are over the speed limit or going too fast prior to reaching the start of the work zone.

Don't Forget to Properly Illuminate the Work Area Including Any Work Site Signs If You Will Be Working After Sunset

If your crew will be putting in any hours after sunset (or before sunrise), you are already probably investing in flashlights or head lamps. But don't forget to get additional lighting to illuminate any road cones or important signs that you put up in order to make sure they are still effective even in the dark.

If you will be starting construction projects on public property or doing road work for the first time, make sure you protect your employees with the right work zone safety equipment to help re-direct or guide drivers as they approach your employees and the work site.
